Before starting my editorial yarn, I first have to thank our panel of Minnesota State College of Business professors for choosing our 2012 Business Person of the Year, an honor shared this year by North Mankato kettle corn moguls Dan and Angie Bastian.
Since December is already on the tip of everyone’s tongue, I have no qualms wishing you an early Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanzaa or any other blessings you may wish on these or any other holidays you may or may not celebrate.

Is humid July here already? June 3 marked my 15th anniversary as editor of southern Minnesota’s first and only locally owned business magazine.
We have much to share. So rather than dawdle about the weather or something inconsequential, I want to get right at this issue’s pertinent potpourri of thought and information.
Can you believe spring is almost here? The Editor has doubts and probably won’t believe spring has sprung until late May or the first mosquito, whichever comes first. That snow pile buttressing our home probably won’t melt until July 4.
We issued a call for nominations in September and the first week of October sent off the nominee list along with supporting information to our panel of judges, who were Minnesota State business faculty. For the fifth straight year, they did a superb job choosing.
At this reading, the Editor could still be pumping water out his basement sump pump from the late September aqua deluge. It was Noah’s Ark in Vernon Center—along with everywhere else. As for this election: Be sure to vote your conscience and become part of a human deluge at the November polls.
Labor Day means an Editor labor day. I will be finishing yard work and figuring out what to do with a basement entrance. I hope you spend your Labor Day relaxing. That said, buckle your seat belt and away we go…
